Trawling through Bivago …

April 19, 2016 - accommodation

I’mLorne accommodation just having a really hard time finding a half decent place to stay on the Great Ocean Road. Accommodation, I feel, has never been more accessible than it is in the modern age. With a room or a house available at just the click of the finger, websites like SkyBnB and Bivago have revolutionised the way we look for a place to while away the hours. Instead of just conversing with the flowers, we can ease on down the road to a place where everything is already set up for us – ready and waiting.

The thing is, that during any of the major holiday times (ie, school holidays) finding somewhere to stay through home-sharing services can be a bit of a nightmare. Usually, during the term and things like that, the people who offer their homes to strangers like me are working 9 to 5 just to make a living. They don’t have time to be on the coast, soaking up some rays. But during school holidays, when they actually are free, you can bet their going to be using their beach house for all it’s worth. So if you, like me, actually want to find some Lorne accommodation, you have to start looking at the places you wouldn’t normally even think about. Like hotels.

I mean, I can’t really afford to stay in a hotel. I will if I have to, but in terms of my budgeting and what I want to do with my life, it’s not really going to work. So instead I end up trawling through a surprisingly limited series of increasingly expensive places, knowing that I’m making things much harder on myself than they necessarily need to be. All I need to do is suck it up and decide to stay in any one of the beautiful, pristine, luxury rooms offered throughout Lorne or Anglesey or anywhere else on the Great Ocean Road. I just need a little more time to persuade myself into it.
