Post Office Collectibles

June 7, 2016 - Job

courier bagsPhew, collectibles are a tricky business! At first I thought you could genuinely make money by just going on Oak-Tree.com and buying stuff that people thought was worthless. Then you just go to some more popular and respected online marketplace, and boom! Profit! Well, it sort of works…but it’s not as much profit as I expected. Factor in postage costs and you might as well just give up, for all the hassle that’s involved. Fortunately, I’ve found a niche.

Turns out, people will pay buckets of cash for old courier bags that Australia doesn’t really use for postage circulation any more. It’s a thriving market of dealers who I’d imagine raid their grandparent’s lofts and find hidden treasures, in the form of postage bags. I guess. It doesn’t matter, because this has been a goldmine for me so far. Nowadays, post offices use state-of-the-art courier satchels to deliver mail. Stronger than before, more ergonomic than the yesteryear and designed for maximum postage holding. I was told all this upon my local visit to the post office, where I happen to have special connections. My parents used to work there for years until they retired, so they’re sort of post office celebrities. And unlike a lot of people working in similar places, they were super nice to absolutely everyone, all the time, so much so that some people wondered if they eschewed the sacred duty of judging people for what they got in the post. Can you imagine? Anyway, point it, I was able to sweet-talk my way to the back rooms, innocently asking if they had any satchels they weren’t using any more. As I suspected, my parents and their spendthrift ways meant that they never threw out any of the old bags, and the people after them have kept them because…probably procrastination.

All I had to do was offer to remove the old postage satchels, to make room for the new, and I’m rich. Rich! There were entire piles, just waiting to be sold. All mine! For the good of the nation’s postal workers, of course.
