Hubbie and I have been living the Australian dream since we moved to Tamworth. We fled the hustle and bustle of city life and emerged into the country air to live on our new farm. Both of us grew up on farms so it was our long term plan to get back into farming as soon as we’d raised enough money. Getting the farm started involved hiring a company to build the commercial sheds. Tamworth has a number of good builders that can make custom sheds for any needs.
The builders came around and got stuck into their job. I know it was just a machinery shed but it triggered all of these emotions for me. Seeing the scaffolding go up and eventually the galvanised frame took me back to my girlhood and the farm I grew up on. I recalled the smell of freshly harvested grains and the sunset at the edge of the field. I took a real trip down memory lane – and all thanks to those customs sheds. Tamworth is also similar to the place I grew up in. and I started having other memories that I’d totally forgotten about. The memory was of the years before hubbie and I were married, when he’d come around sometimes to visit our farm and give Dad a hand. Then afterwards while Dad was in the shower and Mum was preparing dinner, Hubbie-to-be and I would sneak into the barns and well… Let’s just say we got to know each other pretty quick!
By the time I was finalising the cheque for the builders, I was rather flustered (and wondering what time hubbie would get home!) I’m so glad we moved to country NSW. From now on we’ll be working a farm just like our parents used to do. Hopefully the magic of my childhood will go on until we both retire.
