I have a confession to make: I’m not actually an end-of-the-world conspiracy theorist. I’ve might have been going to all their meetings and seminars, but honestly, it’s all for fun. Hopefully they never find out, because these people are totally nuts. A lot of fun though.
I went along to their initial meeting with a friend, and we pretty quickly learned that we were out of our depth…sanity-wise, that is. A lot of ranting and raving, a lot of people twisting really basic facts and just outright lying (like, I’m pretty sure global warming isn’t responsible for partially melting the brains of TV writers, causing them to create so many terrible mid-season finales). And so on. But I stuck with it, because this stuff is seriously hilarious. And as I’ve found, occasionally educational.
A few of the more rational among them have been doing research into things like solar power and commercial LED lighting, all for the purpose of finding ways to stop society from collapsing. I’m not saying I agree with how they INTERPRET their findings, but I’ve been looking into solar energy and commercial energy storage. People are doing some pretty interesting things with the technology, I can say that much. Saving money by installing LED lighting in buildings across this country is an incredibly smart move. And yeah, I totally get it: it’s not like our current energy methods are infinite. Greener power is always a good thing, especially solar.
I’m actually scheduled to give a talk next month- you can’t be a member for too long without being coerced into doing it- so now I’m wondering what to do. Like, if I go up there and give a sane and balanced speech on how commercial solar in Melbourne is a great renewable industry, and then DON’T follow up with a tirade about how the government is keeping it all for themselves to create a death-robot army…will I be lynched? Wish me luck!
