Windows that let the draft in

December 16, 2015 - Window repairs

Window repairs I’m so done. I can’t keep living like this, as if I’m in some sort of medieval castle, before the invention of windtight buildings and insulation. Of course, my house has insulation, but it’s been three weeks since it was windtight and I simply can’t bear these God awful draughts. They rattle through the house and rattle my aging bones. I’ll tell you, I’m a big believer in ‘you are as young as you feel’, but even I feel old today. I don’t mind a bit of cold, but the constant wind has gotten to me.

My building isn’t the nicest, nor is it in the nicest parts of towns, but we’d never had a problem with vandalism until about a month ago. It was in the middle of the night, I was completely asleep, but in all honesty I just don’t sleep as well as I used to, and so I heard the brink go through the window. The next morning I got straight onto my repair man about doing window repairs here in Melbourne, but all he could tell me was that he’s really busy at this time of year, and so wouldn’t be able to get on to it for a few days. Well, now it’s been a few weeks, and I’m still waiting for him to come and fix it. To be honest, I’m beginning to seriously question the competence of my handyman. While it’s true that he came through for me many times in the past, in recent times he’s been much more unreliable. When I was talking to my son about what goes into a repairing a window like mine, he explained that there are actually timber window repair men in Melbourne who specialise in fixing windows like mine.

I must say, it would have been nice to hear this from the repairman, instead of empty promises.
