Seriously, I’m thanking my lucky stars for recruitment agencies, because I don’t think I would’ve gotten a job any other way. Melbourne’s recruitment agencies are the kind of thing you don’t even know is there until you get fired unfairly from your previous job, you can’t contest because everyone was scared of the boss and won’t say anything against them and thus you end up with this rubbish black mark. That was a tough time, although my parents were really cool about me moving back in.
And then Mum went on the google and found out all about this special retreat up in the mountains. I think she meant well, but I’m not the most…physically apt person. My cardio sucks, I’m really not good at getting up early and if I miss sleep, my brain just goes right out the window. So getting up at 4:30 every morning, going for runs with packs full of boulders and having to recite marketing terms just to get food? Eh…not my thing. I was told that recruitment agencies really responded well to that type of course, since it shows that you’re made of stern stuff, but…I’m not THAT stern. I try to work hard, but in the end, I’m not some monk. I messed up my answers, had to be roused every morning by a bucket of cold water and eventually my mentor just started to look at me with this expression of pity.
Wasn’t the end, though. Out of the blue, got called up by a recruitment agency who noticed some earlier work I’d done. Didn’t see that coming, but I finally got a job, and I didn’t have to spend weeks sleeping on a straw mat. Maybe I’ll get an offer from someone in office support recruitment. Melbourne has a bit of job shortage at the moment and things are getting competitive. I know I shouldn’t get greedy…I’m happy with what I have.
